So, you’re scarred | Beverly Carroll

So, you’re scarred

That thing that necessitated your healing left its mark, didn’t it? I get it, beloved. After all, few, if any of us, go through life unscathed. Today, though, can we shift our paradigm a bit?

I’d like to invite you to modify the way you view the scars wrought by your wounding.

Our tendency is to view them as unwelcome souvenirs—indelible evidences that never let us forget that we are now altered, marked, and marred.

𝐖𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐢𝐟, though, we view them as testimonies of triumph, instead?

Victories inscribed in the flesh.

Each scar narrating a story of resilience and courage—of battles fought and obstacles overcome.

We regard them no longer as just reminders of pain, but badges of honor. No longer something to lament, but flesh and blood symbols of strength and endurance worthy of celebration.

When we place our scars in the nail-scarred hands of the One who heals, He tends carefully to them, transfiguring them so substantially that they no longer mark just our bodies and our hearts, but our journeys through adversity as well.

He imbues them with significance, each one proclaiming a tale of survival in the face of difficulty. Each one testifying that despite being wounded, we ultimately emerged stronger and more resilient.

God eclipses our hurt with healing, and transforms our suffering into strength.

Yes, we carry scars, but they are not just marks of injury—they are emblems of inspiration, etched into our very being.

So, may we resolve to view our scars as precursors of redemption, reminding each of us that healing has less to do with erasing wounds and more to do with embracing the journeys that have shaped us into who we are today.

“Out of suffering have emerged the strongest souls; the most massive characters are seared with scars.”
