This past year, I transformed our rarely used dining room into a study. I envisioned it as a quiet, peaceful place—a sanctuary—where I could write, study, or simply sit and read. It’s a space where I can spend time with the Lord, and, once again, feast upon His word in a Jeremiah 15:16 kind of way, embracing this new year with its fresh purposes, lessons, and possibilities.
It seems, however, I’m not the only one drawn to the study. Sadie and Lexi, never content to be out of my presence, have made it their mission to supervise everything I do here. They have concluded that this is their space too, and, just this morning, decided that merely being in the same room with me wasn’t enough. They needed to be on the desk. Inches from mommy.
They stepped all over my Bible and study books, either oblivious to, or exasperated by, their presence. What mattered to them, much more than my spiritual growth, is what eventually took priority—belly rubs, kisses, and baby talk. And, honestly? I wouldn’t have it any other way. Jesus, said, “Suffer the little children and forbid them not to come unto Me.”
Following His lead where my furbabies are concerned, I’ll welcome the interruptions with open arms. After all, every good study could benefit from a bit of chaos, especially if it’s the kind that comes with wagging tails, goofy grins, and hearts full of unconditional love.
“Thy words were found, and I did eat them; and Thy word was unto me the joy and rejoicing of mine heart: for I am called by Thy name, O Lord God of hosts.”
