C/2022 E3, also known as the Green Comet, was due to cross paths with Earth for the first time, last night. It wasn’t discovered until March 2022, but has been greatly anticipated, and is marked by its “bright green nucleus and long faint ion tail.”
A lifelong stargazer, I was giddy about the opportunity to see this once in a lifetime spectacle, but, much to my dismay, the weather did not cooperate.
The stars have always arrested my attention and caused me to dream. God’s handiwork has knocked my socks off for as long as I can remember. I marvel at the things He made, primarily, I think, because they 𝐭𝐞𝐬𝐭𝐢𝐟𝐲. They bear witness to their Creator. The power displayed by the things He made comforts me—assures me—that 𝐧𝐨𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐠 I face is too hard for the One who did all that.
I sometimes imagine Him unveiling some aspect of His creation: a sunrise, a rainbow, or a meteor shower, perhaps, and then, with great fanfare, stepping aside and exclaiming, ❞𝐓𝐚-𝐝𝐚!❞
I think our Divine Artist loves it when we respond to His handiwork with glee. So, I brag on Him a lot. I applaud the unexpected, and make it a point to celebrate even the commonplace wonders, like puppy breath, bumblebees, and daffodils.

For rainbows, and ocean waves,
and gentle summer breezes,
for shooting stars, and thunderstorms
and dandelion sneezes,
for snowflakes, and babies’ smiles,
and sunsets that astound,
for mountain peaks, and moonlit nights, and four-leaf clovers found,
for lightning bugs, and puffy clouds,
and fields adorned with flowers
for crickets’ songs, and autumn leaves,
and peaceful, springtime showers,
we offer praise for all the ways
Creation speaks Your story,
and reveals Your power to transform
our glimpses into glory.
God’s creativity and artistic flair are things to be marveled over, not taken for granted. The intricacies of a seashell, the exquisite beauty of a rose, the strength of a redwood, 𝐚𝐥𝐥 𝐭𝐞𝐬𝐭𝐢𝐟𝐲 to the glory and power of the One Who not only sees us, but 𝐚𝐜𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐩𝐚𝐧𝐢𝐞𝐬 us—ordering our steps, choreographing our lives, healing our sorrows, and redeeming what had the power to level us, but only left us flourishing, instead.
“To whom then will ye liken Me, or shall I be equal? saith the Holy One. Lift up your eyes on high, and behold who hath created these things, that bringeth out their host by number: He calleth them all by names by the greatness of His might, for that He is strong in power; not one faileth.”
