There is much that elicits joy if we’ll only allow ourselves to notice and celebrate. This precious cat is one of those things! I don’t know who he belongs to, but he has been sleeping on our porch swing for months, and his choice to find rest at our home has brought me such joy. I added extra blankets for the cold, and never tire of awaiting his nightly arrival. I also check to see when he leaves each morning, loving how he stretches, then saunters back down the steps.
Joy mitigates sorrow, and wonder infuses the commonplace with delight. My receptivity sometimes falters, though, diminished by the fact that life without our Jimmy is often just plain hard, and my joy, in short supply.
Tonight, my Austin reminded me that joy is a choice. I needed to hear his admonition. He’s absolutely right, by the way, and so wise, just like his daddy.
So, I close tonight grateful for the nudge to shift my focus to the things that make for giggles, exclamations, and hearts filled to bursting. We say goodbye to another day, snug as a bug in a rug—all five of us. Austin, Sadie, Lexi, me, and our sweet, borrowed cat.
How about you? What is currently bringing you joy?
