Last night was such a joy.
Underneath a star filled sky, and all alone except for Jesus, I waited expectantly for Him to knock my socks off.
Fresh off a brand new class at the local junior college, and positively giddy about the Perseid Meteor Shower, I gathered my chair and pillow and drove to a nearby elementary school.
There, in the middle of the walking track, waiting for the clouds to clear, I spoke with the One who spoke it all into being.
Godβs handiwork, in its miraculous and myriad forms, has always moved me.
Last night was no exception.
He absolutely showed off!
I applauded God (literally) with each grand glimpse and brilliant display, and as the meteors streaked across the sky, I bragged to Him ππππ’π‘ Him.
I spoke aloud the Scriptures that extol His creative power. I whispered back to Him in agreement the truths He first breathed into existence. βYes, Lord, truly the heavens declare Your glory and Creation testifies.β
I felt small in light of all I was seeing, but not insignificant in the least.
I was seen.
I was companied.
I was loved.
Face to the sky, I basked in the love of the One who hung the stars and scattered the meteors, but who still makes room for the wonder of one woman, sitting alone on a walking track, marveling at His glory.
How many of these have we taken in together, just Jesus and me?
At the beach, in the mountains, on the roof, in the driveway, on the walking track, or in the field, I have celebrated spectacle after spectacle.
Through years and seasons, through joy and heartache, the stars have never ceased to delight and comfort me, their magnificence eclipsed only by the Star Breather Himself.
For, surely, if He can do all that, He can care for me.
And maybe that is why I keep looking up. Because every time I do, I remember that the same God who commands the heavens tends to every detail of my life.
He has proven it in a thousand different ways over the years, especially since I became a widow.
The One who adorns the skies is not indifferent to what happens on the ground. Ever vigilant, He keeps watch, tending to the details of a life He refuses to overlook.
Last night, I thought I was simply waiting for Him to put on another spectacular show.
As it turns out, He did knock my socks off.
Just in more ways than I expected.
βWhen I consider thy heavens, the work of thy fingers, the moon and the stars, which thou hast ordained; What is man, that thou art mindful of him? and the son of man, that thou visitest him?β
