Wendell Berry, one of my favorite writers, died yesterday at the age of 92. I feel like I lost a friend.

Interestingly, just yesterday, before I knew of his passing, I was speaking with a precious friend of more than thirty years when I remembered a quote of his that I have always loved.

On the call, we spoke of our desire to live significant lives. Of our need to know what lives like that even look like for us, and how to make sure we donโ€™t miss what weโ€™re here to do.

We each want so badly to make a difference for others and for the Kingdom, but fall short in our ability to identify exactly how.

And then this:

โ€œIt may be that when we no longer know what to do, we have come to our real work and when we no longer know which way to go, we have begun our real journey.

The mind that is not baffled is not employed. The impeded stream is the one that sings.โ€

So today, I embrace the work, no matter what it involves, and I welcome the journey, no matter where it leads.

I feel quite sure my sweet friend and I will both end up where we were always meant to be.

Thank you, Wendell.
